I’ve once again made my annual pilgrimage to Staunton, VA for the Summer Sounds series at the Staunton Music Festival.  The days are just flying past full of new music to learn, rehearsals, performances and just about everything in between.  A personal highlight so far has been yesterday’s performance of the Krebs Allegro in a minor from his Concerto for two harpsichords, which I played with keyboard virtuoso David Schrader.  There’s still lots of music left in this festival though, so I had best get practicing!

So I’m very excited to see the International Viola d’Amore festival ramping up for the end of June.  Emails are flying every which way and it turns out that scheduling is in fact, very difficult...imagine that.  Joking aside, I’m especially excited about playing Wolfgang Hofmann’s Sonatine für Viola d’amore und Cembalo.  Its a post-tonal work written in 1963 (no not 1693!) and I’ve been having a great time introducing it to my brain, fingers, and ear.  Brings back a little post-traumatic stress from Theory IV, but it is a really interesting work.

Also coming up THIS WEEK!  The Opera Company is putting on a show I will be playing continuo for along with my younger sister, who will, of course, be playing gamba.  There are two sides to this performance, a modern and a baroque which I think will really work well with each other.  I encourage you all to come and hope to see everyone there.
